Southern demographic shifts fill enrollment gaps as national levels decline

Higher ed institutions across much of the country are experiencing a decline in enrollments, with numbers down 1.5 percent since spring of 2016. However, high school graduation rates for Hispanic populations are increasing in Southern and Western regions. This means that, despite falling high school graduation numbers for white students, higher ed institutions can use data surrounding these demographic shifts to maintain enrollment figures and target Hispanic high school graduates for their degrees and other programs.
