Job postings published with the Modern Language Association (MLA) have declined for the fifth straight year, according to the association’s Job Information List. There were 11 percent fewer jobs than the previous year in English. In addition, the share of job ads in the tenure-line has fallen to under 65 percent. Experts say the cause is still unknown, but factors like a drop in faculty retirements and enrollments could contribute to this decrease.
