New England, PA and IL colleges score low marks on affordability
According to a new report, New England institutions have the highest in-state tuitions in the country. Illinois and Pennsylvania also rank among the highest for in-state costs for students. While the Northeast includes many of the most expensive institutions, colleges and universities in this region are also struggling more than their peers due to low feeder populations and other factors. It is important to note that the cost of living is a stumbling block for recruiting faculty, as well as student affordability. As costs continue to climb, institutions must balance affordability with maintaining the enrollments needed to stay afloat.
