Distance Ed Growth – Access is a Big Motivator, But It’s Complicated

Distance education enrollment numbers continue to climb, but until now it has been unclear exactly why this is the case. WCET conducted a survey among its members to identify potential causes. Respondents indicated that distance learning may be cannibalizing on-campus enrollments, while 1 in 5 felt that their institution was focused on distance learning because it provides additional funding. In addition, survey respondents identified convenience and increased access as the main purpose for providing distance education options.
